Cortina d'Ampezzo is a unique destination for fans of skiing and snowboarding. Let's find out more about the ski resorts in this area.
The Cortina d'Ampezzo ski slopes, located in the picturesque surroundings of the Dolomites, are one of the most famous ski destinations in Italy and a must for all winter sports lovers. They promise unforgettable descents for all tastes: from those looking for adrenaline to those who would rather enjoy the wonderful landscape around them at a slower pace.
Let's find out which are the best ski slopes in Cortina, one of the locations that will host the 2026 Winter Olympics. In the past, it has been the scene of significant winter sports events, such as the 1956 Winter Olympics, the Women's World Cup, and the 2021 Alpine Ski World Cup.
The Cortina ski area is divided into different regions with a total of 120 km of slopes. Fans of winter sports like downhill skiing and snowboarding have options when it comes to spending a day in the snow.
Let's check out the different ski areas around Cortina.
With its seven ski lifts and fifteen trails, this area is esteemed by winter sports lovers. From here, you can admire the landscape of the Dolomites, mountains that were declared a World Heritage Site in 2009 by UNESCO. You will find five black trails that can put the most experienced skiers to the test, eight red trails for those looking for medium difficulty, and two blue trails.
Want to experience the excitement of a descent on the slopes where athletes in the Alpine Ski World Cup and the Cortina 2021 World Championships competed? The ski slopes in the Tofane area are perfect for you.
Not only do they have adrenaline-pumping descents: the area has 36 ski slopes. More experienced skiers can try their luck on the five black slopes there (including the famous Olympia delle Tofane); for intermediate or beginner skiers or those just wanting to relax, there are 12 red and 19 blue slopes.
Let's continue our tour of Cortina d'Ampezzo's ski slopes to check out the Lagazuoi - 5 Torri area. It can be reached directly from Tofane thanks to the new Cortina Skyline cable car, which opened at the end of 2021. This descent is unique, as it lets you take in two breathtaking views: the Tofana di Rozes on one side, which is the most iconic mountain of Tofane, and on the other, the Arabba Valley, where you can see the Marmolada Glacier.
Located between the Giau Pass and the Falzarego pass, the Lagazuoi-5 Torri ski area has low- and medium-difficulty routes. This is the only area without black slopes. You can choose from 16 ski slopes – nine red and seven blue ones.
Since the winter of 2021-22, the ski areas of Tofane and Lagazuoi - 5 Torri have been connected by the new Cortina Skyline cable car.
At the foot of the second peak of the Dolomites after the Marmolada (that is, on Monte Antelao), you'll find the nine ski slopes of San Vito. Here, there are also options for skiers of all levels, with one black slope (Ciastèl), four red slopes, and four blue ones.
Children's joy in the snow is unique, and sharing a passion for winter sports with them is an excellent way to have family moments.
The Cortina d'Ampezzo ski resort offers various activities for little ones, such as playgrounds in the snow, pony rides, and ice skating.
Younger skiers can take their first steps on special slopes like the Campo scuola Socrepes.
Cortina d'Ampezzo also offers attractive routes for cross-country skiers. There are 70 km of trails in the area for all who practise this sport, from beginners to experts. The routes are spread out over two areas: the Fiames Nordic Centre, which has simpler and more accessible trails suitable for beginners, and the Tre Croci Pass, which is for more experienced cross-country skiers.
We've seen where to ski in Cortina d'Ampezzo and the different ski slopes available in the area, a true reference point for those looking for a unique place to practice winter sports.
